The Butterfly effect of Skepta,Nike x Skepta Tailwind V Review

First up, we have the newest drop featuring the legendary running shoe, the Nike Tailwind. First debuting in the ’70s, the newest design builds from the 2007 Tailwind V Plus and combines various elements of Skepta’s life. Nike describes Skepta’s vision for this sneaker collaboration as an ode to butterflies and metamorphis. Using Skepta’s  “better is temporary” ethos as a way to “honor icons of AM heritage” through dynamic material and design elements combined with classic foundation of style.

his fusion can be seen most obviously in the sublimated blue butterfly wing print on the top of the shoe which references Skepta’s journey through creation.

In his conversation with Nike, Skepta elaborates on the theme of metamorphis explaining, “We are all going through metamorphosis, a new stage of life”… “We chose this butterfly print out of about 50 different options because it had to evoke the correct emotion.”

Next up, we have the Air Max 97 which was inspired by Skepta’s home away from London, Morocco and his love of Nike.

On a trip to Essaouira and surrounding communities, Nike documented Skepta on an epic photoshoot highlighting the beauty of Morocco landscape and the Skepta X Nike Air Max 97. Nike notes that Morocco is also historically famous for being a home to many musicians, rockstars and even Jazz artists since the 60’s.

Combining the energies Nike captures a memorable Air Max that is eye catching and very futuristic. Boasting dark metallic green silhouettes the Nike Air Max 97 and a look into Skepta’s connection with Morocco.

The UK and Glob HiP Hop icon told Nike, that “[he is] blessed to have been able to travel the world doing what I do. After touring so much, I was looking for some peace.”

Counting to tell the Nike team, “I found Morocco, and it was perfect. Everything I wanted to feel about peace, I found it there. I like the architecture, the pastel colors, the taxis, the way that you could just go into a small little souq, open a door and it brings you into a big, massive, beautiful new world that you never would have expected
